Some of you made progress. Some of you survived. Some of you took hits that almost broke you. But here we are \u2014 still standing, still breathing, still in the game.<\/p>\n<p>That counts for something.<\/p>\n<p>Now the question is simple: what are we going to do with 2026?<\/p>\n<h2>Enough With the Excuses<\/h2>\n<p>Let us be honest with each other. We have all made excuses at some point.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The economy is bad.&#8221; Yes, it is. It has been bad for years. It will probably stay difficult for years to come. And yet, businesses are growing right now in this same economy. People are making money in this same Zimbabwe. The economy is not stopping everyone \u2014 so why should it stop you?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not have capital.&#8221; Neither did many of the business owners you admire. They started with what they had. A skill. A phone. A small amount of stock. A service they could offer. Capital is helpful, but it is not the starting point. Resourcefulness is.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The competition is too much.&#8221; Good. Competition means there is demand. Competition means customers exist. Your job is not to eliminate competition \u2014 it is to serve your customers better than the rest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not know where to start.&#8221; You start where you are. You start with what you have. You start today. Not next month. Not when things are &#8220;ready.&#8221; Today.<\/p>\n<p>2026 is the year we stop making excuses and start making moves.<\/p>\n<h2>The Businesses That Will Win This Year<\/h2>\n<p>Let me tell you what separates businesses that grow from businesses that struggle:<\/p>\n<h2>1. They solve real problems.<\/h2>\n<p>The businesses that win are not chasing trends or copying what everyone else is doing. They are paying attention to what people actually need. They are listening to complaints and turning them into products. They are watching inconveniences and turning them into services.<\/p>\n<p>What problem does your business solve? If you cannot answer that clearly, you have work to do.<\/p>\n<h2>2. They show up consistently.<\/h2>\n<p>The market does not reward talent. It rewards consistency. The business that posts every day beats the business with better products that posts once a month. The entrepreneur who follows up with every lead beats the one who waits for customers to come back.<\/p>\n<p>Consistency is boring. It is also what separates those who make it from those who disappear.<\/p>\n<h2>3. They keep proper records.<\/h2>\n<p>If you do not know your numbers, you do not know your business. How much did you make last month? What were your expenses? Which products gave you the best profit margin? Where did you lose money?<\/p>\n<p>Too many of us are running businesses blind \u2014 guessing instead of knowing. This year, track everything. Use the ZimLedger app. Write in a notebook if you must. But know your numbers.<\/p>\n<h2>4. They reinvest before they eat.<\/h2>\n<p>The temptation when money comes in is to upgrade your life. New clothes. Better phone. Nicer things. But the businesses that grow are the ones that put money back in before the owner takes out.<\/p>\n<p>Reinvest in stock. Reinvest in equipment. Reinvest in marketing. Reinvest in systems. Eat later. Build first.<\/p>\n<h2>5. They are not afraid to sell.<\/h2>\n<p>Some of us are embarrassed to market our businesses. We post once and hope customers find us. We feel shy to tell people what we do. We wait for word of mouth that never spreads fast enough.<\/p>\n<p>Stop hiding. Tell people what you sell. Post it on your status. Send that message. Make that call. Ask for that referral. Selling is not begging \u2014 it is serving.<\/p>\n<h2>What You Should Do This Month<\/h2>\n<p>Do not let January end without taking action. Here is your assignment:<\/p>\n<h2>Week 1: Get your records in order.<\/h2>\n<p>Open the ZimLedger app or get a notebook. Write down everything you sold last month. Write down everything you spent. Calculate your profit. If the number is ugly, good \u2014 now you know where you stand.<\/p>\n<h2>Week 2: Set a clear target.<\/h2>\n<p>How much do you want your business to make this year? Break it down by month. Break it down by week. What do you need to sell each week to hit that target? Write it down. Put it where you can see it every day.<\/p>\n<h2>Week 3: Increase your visibility.<\/h2>\n<p>Post about your business at least once a day for the rest of the month. Update your WhatsApp status. Create content showing your product or service. Tell your story. Let people know you exist.<\/p>\n<h2>Week 4: Follow up with every old customer.<\/h2>\n<p>Go through your phone. Find everyone who ever bought from you or enquired about your product. Send them a message. Tell them what is new. Offer them something. Remind them you are still in business. Old customers are easier to convert than new ones.<\/p>\n<h2>Stop Competing With Employees<\/h2>\n<p>Some of you have businesses but you are still living like employees. You wait for Monday to &#8220;start working.&#8221; You clock off at 5pm. You take weekends off completely. You expect your business to grow while you give it part-time energy.<\/p>\n<p>That is not how this works.<\/p>\n<p>Your business needs you early in the morning. It needs you late at night. It needs you on Saturday. It needs you thinking, planning, selling, delivering, improving \u2014 constantly.<\/p>\n<p>Employees get to rest because owners are working. If you want to be the owner, you cannot operate like the employee.<\/p>\n<h2>Support Each Other<\/h2>\n<p>One more thing. Let us stop tearing each other down.<\/p>\n<p>When a friend shares their business, support them. Buy from them if you can. Refer them if you cannot. Share their post. Encourage them. A rising tide lifts all boats.<\/p>\n<p>We are not competitors \u2014 we are colleagues building in the same difficult environment. There is enough money in Zimbabwe for all of us to eat. The real competition is not each other. It is poverty. It is stagnation. It is the mindset that says nothing can work here.<\/p>\n<p>Let us prove that mindset wrong together.<\/p>\n<h2>The Year Ahead<\/h2>\n<p>2026 will not be easy. No year is easy. There will be challenges. There will be slow months. There will be moments you want to quit.<\/p>\n<p>But there will also be breakthroughs. There will be customers who find you. There will be deals that come through. There will be growth you did not expect.<\/p>\n<p>The question is whether you will still be in the game when those moments arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Push your business this year. Push it harder than you pushed last year. Market more. Sell more. Track your money. Reinvest. Stay consistent. Do not give up.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve months from now, let us look back at this message and celebrate how far we have come.<\/p>\n<p>2026 is our year.
