Every one of these products is in demand. And every new building that goes up needs them.<\/p>\n
For decades, Zimbabwean homes used steel windows and doors. They were cheap and widely available. But steel rusts. It requires regular painting and maintenance. It deteriorates over time and looks dated.<\/p>\n
Aluminium does not rust. It is lightweight, durable, low-maintenance, and modern-looking. It allows for larger glass panels and better natural light. It comes in powder-coated finishes that retain their colour for years without repainting.<\/p>\n
The market has made its decision. Steel is being phased out.<\/p>\n
Zimbabwe’s construction industry is active. New medium and low density houses are going up across Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, and beyond. These houses \u2014 worth anywhere from $80,000 to $500,000 and above \u2014 are almost exclusively using aluminium for windows, doors, and other fittings.<\/p>\n
It is not just new buildings. Thousands of existing homes and commercial premises are being renovated. Old steel windows and doors are being removed and replaced with aluminium. Old shower areas are being refitted with modern glass cubicles. Offices are being partitioned with glass and aluminium. This renovation market adds to an already large new-build market.<\/p>\n
While the majority of the aluminium market is currently in medium and low density properties, high density areas are also beginning to make the shift. As affordability improves and aluminium becomes more accessible, this will become an additional significant market.<\/p>\n
New offices, shops, malls, hotels, and other commercial premises are built with aluminium curtain walls, glass shopfronts, and aluminium partitioning. These are larger, more complex, and higher-paying jobs than residential work.<\/p>\n
This is not a trend. This is a permanent shift in how Zimbabwe builds. Every house built from now on will use aluminium. Every renovation will use aluminium. Every commercial building will use aluminium. The fabricator with good skills and a good reputation will never run out of work.<\/p>\n

This is one of the most important aspects of this business that is rarely discussed. The standard practice in the industry is that the client pays a deposit upfront \u2014 and that deposit covers the full cost of purchasing materials. This means you do not need your own money to fund the job. You collect the deposit, purchase the materials, fabricate the products, install them, and collect the balance. Find an established aluminium fabricator and offer to work with them. Some will accept you in exchange for free labour while you learn. Others may charge a small mentorship fee. Either way, the hands-on experience you gain is worth far more than any classroom course alone.<\/p>\n

Start with a small residential job. A single window replacement. A bathroom shower cubicle. Work carefully, work neatly, and deliver a quality result. Document it with photographs.<\/p>\n
Word of mouth drives this business. One quality job leads to three more. Builders, architects, and property developers all have long lists of houses and buildings that need aluminium work. Get on those lists by being the fabricator who is reliable, neat, and professional.<\/p>\n

Your first clients will almost always come through people you know.
